This website is dedicated to my daughter Julie who sadly lost her life to ovarian cancer on the 1st of October 2002 at the age of 27.
Julie was diagnosed with ovarian cancer on the 13th of February 2002; she had an ovary removed two weeks prior to diagnosis after developing severe abdominal pain. For several months prior to diagnosis Julie had symptoms I now recognise as symptoms associated to ovarian cancer, i.e. back pain, bloated and heavy feeling in her abdomen, changes in bowel pattern, and ongoing excessive fatigue. When Julie was first diagnosed I had a hunger for more information on ovarian cancer, unfortunately I was unable to obtain this at a local level, and at that time I was not computer literate, so the World Wide Web wasn't an option. Julie's positive attitude, and bravery throughout her illness both amazed and inspired me and it was her intention when she recovered to make more women aware of ovarian cancer, sadly this was not to be. And so in keeping with her wishes in May 2003 Angels Of Hope was born, we must always have hope. At present we are only a small group whose main aims are to raise awareness throughout the general and medical population, and offer support to sufferers, survivors, and their families. We do not give medical advice, just an understanding of what you may be going through. If you feel the need to talk call me on 028 9024 1310 or email maureen@angelsofhope.org.uk I hope you find this information useful and we would love to hear your comments, experiences, or perhaps any advice you would like to offer. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank DR. S. P. Dobbs Gynaecological Oncologist at Belfast City Hospital, for all his help, advice and support. All medical information on this site has been approved by Dr Dobbs Yours in hope Maureen Clarke
